Trains and Mountains, Oh My!
Sorry about the Porta Potty! I was standing in the Santa Fe Railyard, saw the trains and mountains in the background. It was a beautiful day, cool and refreshing air.
Santa Fe Railyard
I love train rides! You will love the Santa Fe Railyard which is a collection of old trains, New Train Stop, Restaurants, Art Galleries, Stores, Studios and much more. You should also see the mountain view from the Railyard.
Trying to get to a Five Star
I have no loyalty to any particular hotel chain. I have minimum requirements. It must be a 3 1/2 Star or 4 Star Hotel. Furthermore, I almost always book via Priceline. I've raved about Priceline in the past; here is a quick example; I booked two nights at the La Posada Resort and Spa. My winning bid was $100.00 per night plus taxes/fees which came to a grand total of $228.00. Not a bad price considering the hotels rates listed on their website were $269.00 per night.
When I landed in ABQ I planned on riding the RailRunner line to Santa Fe. In fact, I even purchased a ticket in advance. While sitting in the ABQ/Sunport Airport, I figured a rental car would make more sense. I whipped out my laptop, a quick reservation via National for $23.00 per day for a full size car was a steal; until I saw the total price came to $70.00....which was $23.00 per day for two days or total $46.00. The fees were $24.00...airport surcharge and local rental tax. Very insane. I got my rental car and drove one hour North on I25 to Santa Fe.
It was a beautiful drive and I was very happy once I arrived at my hotel; La Posada Resort & Spa....the hotel is on the Palace Ave section and in the main plaza area. The rooms are like little private hotels, nice grounds and has the adobe style architecture.

Snakes were not on my Plane!......However..
I am unsure why the first stop I made in Albuquerque was to the Rattlesnake Museum & Gift Shop in Old Town Albuquerque. Snakes are not my best friend, I am not afraid of snakes, but I do have a deep disdain and yet strong curiosity of snakes. A brief history, I used to catch garden snakes as a kid, I used to run across snakes at camp and when I was a boyscout. I almost was bitten by a baby snake while staying in SC one summer (*** Word to the Wise...Baby snakes can be more dangerous than adult snakes, as they do not have any control of how much venom they release when they bite, unlike adult venomous snakes). When I was in Army Basic Training, I hacked a snake which was curled up next to my tent. This all happened along time ago. However, this past spring while on a trip to SC, I intentionally drove over a large Water Mocassin which was in the roadway. Maybe, I get this from my Dad who did the same thing when I was a kid.
The Rattlesnake Museum contains a good sample of various Rattlesnakes from across the US and South/Central America. The museum is not very large, however is does a great job of educating you about these native snakes and champions the protection of these animals.
Southwest via Southwest
After a few days in Austin, TX; I found my self very eager to start the next leg of my trip....Santa Fe, NM;...For a very long time, I had this huge intrigue with the Southwest. Everything about the Southwest has always captivated me. The landscape, the colors, the adobe style architecture and all the sheer beauty. Whenever, I would see a movie which featured scenes from the Southwest; I would fall into a day dream about being there. Thanks to Southwest Airlines and a $95.00 ticket; my time had come to see the Land of Enchantment.
I flew from Austin, to Dallas to Albuquerque for about three hours, Looking out the window of the airplane as we approached ABQ; I grew more excited. The excitement lasted until we were landing and were a few feet off the ground of the runway; when the pilot had to lift the plane back up into the air. This certainly freaked out a lot a people on the airplane. Apparently, there was another plane which was still in the line-up for take off. So we were back in the air and my excitement was temporarily dashed. We headed back and looped around for another landing. Finally, I touched ground in the Southwest. Thanks, Southwest!

Angry Lady about to kick some ass!
Well, I know Texas has always had a fighting spirit. This lady is about to light a canon and blow some sh%$ up. But I did not take the time to the read the plaque and learn why. This is on Congress Ave. Austin, Texas
State Capitol Building Austin, Texas
So, I read a historical marker inside the Four Seasons Hotel........basically it confirms they really do like big things in Texas. You see when they built the state capitol building in the 1800's, they wanted it to be the largest capitol building and even built their state capitol building to be two feet higher that the US Capitol Building. I headed to Congress Blvd. and took this photo.....................................
Leaving the cold and ice!
The winter has become more of a drain over the past few years. I'm tired of the snow and ice. I was very happy to leave the winter dull drums and head down to Austin, Texas for a business trip. Since my calendar was very tight, I did not get a real chance to explore but wanted to document the area of Austin where I stayed. Well if you can, I recommend the Four Seasons at 98 San Jacinto Blvd. The Four Seasons, is always a wonderful place, the food, the service, the twice a day turn-over service is great, the staff is great.
Austin is a music town, every bar, restaurant and even the Four Seasons has live music just about every evening. It has an eclectic mix of restaurants bars in a few square blocks. The people are friendly.
I plan to enjoy the rest of my time here and learn alot. Hopefully, the 40 degree weather in Austin currently will warm up to 55 degrees again. Like I said, I'm tired of the cold and winter in general!

Clash of the Titans (Philadelphia Cheesesteak Titans!)
Vs.
I had to make a last minute trip to NJ from DC one late Friday evening. A buddy offered for me to crash at his spot so I would not have to spend money on a hotel. He also asked me pick up a cheese steak from Hoagie Haven in Princeton NJ. By the time I got to Delaware; I gave him a call and asked if he wanted a Philly Cheese Steak since I could also take 95N and pass through Philadelphia. He said " Get me two cheese steaks from Pats"........If you are from the East Coast or you are carnivorous fast food junkie, then you know all about Philly Cheese Steaks. And more importantly you know about Pat's "King" of Cheese Steaks and you likely also know about Geno's. Pat's Cheese Steaks started in 1936 and a guy named Pat and his brother are the inventors of the cheese steak. (They even have a historical marker in front of the building). Geno's came along not too far behind and rivalry has lasted for 70 plus years
Well they both sit diagonally across from other of 9th and Passyunk Ave. in South Philly. So I grab two cheese steaks from Pats with onions for my fried. I started to leave, but could not resist the aroma of the cheese steaks which soon filled my car. As I started to leave; I've decided to get a Chicken Cheese Steaks....so rode around the block and looped back around to head over to Geno's. Like a fool I embarrassed myself and asked for a Chicken Cheese Steak. This foolish, as all Philla-philes know, Pats and Genos only sale ONE simple thing. CHEESE STEAKS , NOT CHICKEN. Therefore I ordered two cheese steaks with onions and provolone. (they famous for using cheese whiz) As I left with bag of two Geno cheese steaks, I drove off, before I could get to South Street, I had consumed one of my cheese steaks........instant child hood memories came to mind....I reminder Friday Night treat night as a kid----(this is basically the one night of the week when My mother would make junk food for dinner....cheese steaks, pizza etc.) I don't do this often, as I was a vegetarian for 10 years, partly vegan and have only really eaten poultry for the last 5 years. Red Meat is a rarity for me......I meant those cheese steaks were both damn good and I did not make it out of Philly without eating them both.
